Dawkins, Archbishop of the Church of Athiesm gives a sermon
By Huw Leslie | December 16, 2006
I’ve just finished watching a video of Richard Dawkins posted by Dawkins himself on YouTube. Amusing that he is starting to use new media to spread propaganda of his false philosophy.
What no-one mentioned explicitly in the programme but that I wanted to hear was the point that Richard Dawkins, always critical of faith, is just as faithful as a Christian. There is no proven explanation as to the beginning of this universe. No-one knows for sure whether the cosmos was created by God or in the absence of a God. Yet Dawkins is adamant that any explanation involving a God is invalid and false, and that science provides the only possible answer. There is a gap in our knowledge, and religious people fill it with God, Dawkins with science. Both approaches rely on faith, rather than the firm evidence Dawkins loves so much.
Having removed the argument that a leap of faith can never be justified (since that is required if we are to explain the universe), we can then argue for the existence of God based on logical arguments (my favourite being the first and second of Aquinas’ five, although they need some altering to work). Thus, from the balance of probability, the existence of God can be proved.
I think I might start putting my philosophical ideas down here. After all, if Dawkins can use YouTube, I can use WordPress!

to be honest huw, i think we’d rather that you didn’t keep on philosophising. i completely disagree with you and you clearly have not understood what dawkins is saying.
science is based on experienced and evidence. he wants to answer the questions we do not yet understand (such as the origins of the cosmos) with this experience and evidence. The trend in science has been to disprove religious theories, it seems logical that this trend will continue. the only time religion has an answer is when science does not. to claim “God!” is not logical, it’s ignorance. to claim science simply says - wait and find out!
your point was made in the broadcast, and dawkins simply said “i will change my mind when someone comes up with any evidence whatsoever that there’s any god. I’m waiting…” So am I.

aquinas is outdated, he had to duplicate arguments 1 and 2 to bulk up his evidence (THEY’RE THE EXACT SAME!!!). 4 reasons doesn’t seem very strong, especially when they are all pretty weak.

Posted by: jack on January 3rd, 2007 at 2:46 amRichard Dawkins does our cause more harm than good. In some ways your right, he is just as fundamentalist as a Christian. Now maybe you can see how you look to an atheist.
Where your wrong is over the issue of faith. It requires no faith to believe in the most likely scenario, the one supported by empirical deduction. The odds are overwhelmingly against a god
Posted by: Meredith on January 16th, 2007 at 12:37 pmI get the impression that Meridith isn’t an atheist in the true sense of the word. I have got a feeling that he’s a deist(almost as bad as a theist).
Surely one day you believe that science will prove a God through empirical deduction, if you think a supernatural force created the universe.
I don’t think Dawkins is a bad atheist, he is just one of the few advocates we have, who therefore is perceived as radical. Philosophers pour scorn on him because they’re too stuck up to think that anyone else is possibly capable of thinking about God in any sort of depth.
Posted by: jack on January 17th, 2007 at 11:00 amChristians pour scorn on him, not through logical arguments, but by using society’s blame culture. Liberals blame fundamentalists. Fundamentalists just speak rubbish. This does not excuse the liberals from answering the majority of Dawkin’s questions.
If I require a God; Richard Dawkins is he, at least he is real.
How can anyone believe so heavily in something that is so clearly Bullshit!
Cheers Guys.
